 | Press Release from TBR Racing.
The newly formed Aprilia Racing Team is pleased to announce a double barrel assault on the Australian FX-Superbike and Formula Oz Championships in 2012.
With the full support of Aprilia’s Australian importer - The John Sample Group – the team will utilise the RSV-4 Factory Aprilia - developed over the last two season of Superbike racing - in the Formula Oz Championship and the 2012 Aprilia RSV-4 Factory APRC in the premier Australian FX Superbike Championship.
Team Principal, Steve Trinder is excited about how the team is coming together for the 2012 season
“In 2011 we had a stellar year, we showed on numerous occasions just how good our motorcycle was, unfortunately the result we all deserved just eluded us. At the end of last year we raced at the final round of the FX Superbike Series. I was impressed with the massive amount of track time and racing available and the excellent television coverage on free to air as well as pay to view television.
This year – in conjunction with the John Sample Group – we have decided to mount an assault on the Australian FX Championship in two classes. We did this for many reasons, mainly the opportunity to show off the RSV-4 in two different specifications, both being covered on free to air television and Pay TV at every round, as well as at our home track of Queensland Raceway. In addition, the greatly reduced travel and racing costs involved in competing in the AFX-SBK Championship series has allowed the Aprilia Racing Team to expand to a two rider team and to sign two very exciting riders – incidentally, who we have worked with before – to help us achieve our lofty goals for this season.
We are pleased to welcome back Dan Stauffer to pilot the RSV-4 Superbike that we have developed over the last two seasons in ASBK. The reason I am happy is that Dan started our development trail only a few season ago. But the bike is an incredibly different animal to the one Dan last rode, I can’t wait to see him in action on it. To spearhead our FX-Superbike championship, we have signed former Australian 250GP Champion and Australian Superbike Championship runner-up Russel Holland. Russel has had a couple of lean years overseas, he is hungry to get back to the top level and FX regulars will know all about it with a few new colours up the front.”
Dan Stauffer is pleased to be back with the team he has ridden for many times previously. “I am really looking forward to the season, to be honest when the bike was new and we were trying to develop it, it was a bit frustrating. A few years down the track and we have all seen how good the RSV-4 is now, I can’t wait to get on and have a real go. I think that the riding I did in New Zealand over the New Year was some of my best , I have been working harder than ever with my trainer Stephen Gall and I can’t wait for the season to get underway”.
Russell Holland is back in Australia after years competing in World Superbike, Supersport and finally a stint in the Italian Superstock Championship in 2011 “I hadn’t thought a lot about racing over the last few months to be honest, after a few seasons overseas it was just good to be back home. Then Steve contacted me and things have gone from there. I have no intention of trying to head back overseas, I’m relaxed and I’d really like to put the fun back into racing here in Australia.
I first rode for Steve over ten years ago and he has been a great mentor and supporter in the past.
This year, just like Aprilia, I will be mounting a double barrel assault. Just like any racer, I still want to win every race I start in the FX Superbike Class, but I will also be putting 100% into my studies at University. I find I ride best when I’m busy and combining the two this year should ensure that”
Terry O’Neill the managing director of ARTRP the promoters of the 2012 Australian FX-Superbike Championship commented, “Having both the Australian distributor of Aprilia the John Sample Group and the high profile and very professional Trinder Racing Team back in our championship series is great news for both the series and Australian road racing in general. I’m sure as always Steve has done his homework on how to make the most of what is on offer at the AFX-SBK championship and there is little doubt that his team will do very well in 2012. Both Dan and Russell are two of Australia’s great road racers and I’m sure Aussie race fans and TV viewers will be excited to see these two great riders go head to head with the existing front runners in the AFX-SBK Championship this year.” O’Neill added, “2012 for the AFX-SBK is shaping up as another year of exceptional growth for the championship series given the amount of phone calls we have received from competitors and teams alike expressing interest in competing in a number of championship classes in 2012. We at ARTRP are all looking forward to the season starting at Eastern Creek Raceway in mid March.”
The Aprilia Racing team is now in the final stages of finalising sponsors for this season.
