 |  South Australian riders dominated the Nakedbikes Formula Three, at the Winton round of the Australian Formula Xtreme Championship held over the weekend of 5 and 6 June.
The Hyosung 650 mounted ‘entertainment’ brothers Ric and David Wilkinson took out first and second respectively while fellow South Australian Paul McMenamin (Honda CB400F) completed the podium.
It was always going to be double Hyosung trouble as the brothers continued a sibling rivalry that surely began many years ago in a Kindergarten sand pit somewhere.
In a class comprising entirely of learner approved motorcycles the Wilkinson brothers bashed handle bars and swaped places for the full distance in all six races. There were times when their enthusiasm looked as if they were going to hand the round win to McMenamin on more than one occasion.
With the hard chargers ahead edging him out of the top 2 positions, McMenamin consolidated his second position in the championship after carrying over more points from round 1 than the older of the Wilkinson rivals, David.
The Wilkinson brothers proved to be a hit with the spectators, as wave after wave of well wishers voiced their enjoyment of the spectacle created between the evenly matched Hyosung 650’s.
Ric Wilkinson put his success down to making one less mistake than his brother David in the last race.
David Wilkinson promised to reverse the results at the faster Eastern Creek circuit because he carries a bit more speed on the straights.
Paul McMenamin thanked all the other competitor's for their sportsmanship in allowing lesser powered machines to compete in open competition.
