 | There have been a couple of bikes advertised in our classified section recently that appear to be bogus. We look regularly for these types of ads but it's impossible to catch them all, if you think an ad is fraudulent or you get a unusual response from the advertiser, please email us at:

A number of people who have placed ads in our classifieds section have been contacted by what appears to be very dubious people from overseas, asking for info or offering to purchase or sell bike and/or equipment with cheques or credit cards, via third parties, some even seeking you to send them the change. Almost all the classified sites in Australia have had customers contacted by various unsavoury people.
 | And Bike Rip-Off Merchants !! |
We have watched over the past year various overseas ripe-off merchants doing scams by buying bikes with what look like genuine bankers cheques, shipping the bike else ware (sometimes overseas). The seller then discovers the Bank/Cashiers cheques are forgeries or stolen and is left with nothing. A twist on these type of scams is the buyer sending more money than is required, then asking for the balance to be sent to another person/party.
The latest scam involves bikes that have been advertised on other sites some months ago, the con involves using the details gained from the genuine seller. The con man asks for proof of ownership and a copy of sellers drivers licence, they then use these documents as proof for themselves when they attempt to sell the bogus equipment.
We have seen this type of activity before here and overseas, it’s in your best interest to ensure that your potential customers are who they say they are and will pay you as arranged. If you can't contact them locally and you are unsure of their bonifieds contact your local police with their details.
Suggestions:
- Make sure you have assess to cleared funds for your goods before shipping.
- Make sure the Buyer/Seller can be contacted by phone locally (AU/NZ)
- Get a street address
- Avoid giving your details until you are sure you are dealing with legit buyers/sellers
- Contact the police if you come across scams or visit:
